Álvaro Benito analysed Mourinho's Real Madrid on the SER and stressed that the Portuguese coach must emphasise organisation and defensive and attacking sacrifice for the white team to win titles again. "He has to focus on organisation and sacrifice, both defensively and offensively. We're talking about having a plan A and the players executing it to the letter," explained the Real Madrid former player.

Benito pointed out that Mourinho's great task will be to convince the players about what is necessary to be competitive. "Real Madrid has a squad capable of competing for everything this season if it meets the requirements that Mourinho will demand from his players," he added.

The former player warned about the risk of repeating the mistakes of the last two seasons. "If you stumble over the same stone three years in a row, and in matchday 10 you see a sluggish team without the ball, with a certain point of anarchy, where there is no plan in building attacks and no defensive plan when it comes to organising pressure at any height... it's finished," Benito said.

Benito used PSG as an example of a structured team. "It has dismantled the idea that you need a defensive midfielder. Those young Portuguese guys play there with Fabian, Kvaratskhelia, Doué, Dembélé, two ultra-defensive full-backs who are constantly attacking and that team is a machine when it comes to defending and attacking," he noted.

The former player emphasised that every Real Madrid player must have their tactical responsibilities clearly defined. "Everyone has to have a dynamic, know who has the responsibility to give the team width, who has the responsibility to give depth, so that those passes are quick and fluid and the team is well positioned when building play. That shouldn't be a 'come on, let's pass the ball around and see if someone comes up with something'. With that you can't compete with the biggest teams anymore," Benito concluded.
