Authorities in Grundy County, Illinois captured an African serval that had been loose for several days in the Gardner area.

Animal control authorities in Grundy County, Illinois said an African serval that had been loose for several days was captured safely.

Grundy County Animal Control said the serval, a wild cat approximately the size of a medium-sized dog, was sighted multiple times roaming loose in the Gardner area.

The feline's owner worked together with animal control officers to locate and capture the serval. The exotic pet was finally secured on Monday.

"The serval that has been roaming the Gardner area has been captured," officials wrote on social media. "Our officers had the help of the owner and a very cooperative resident. Thank you again to everyone who reported a sighting! This beautiful cat will soon be safe and at home with its family."
