As Ariana Grande wraps up her Eternal Sunshine Tour, she becomes the latest pop icon to criticise Donald Trump over his use of her music. On Thursday, the three-time Grammy Award winner commented on a TikTok video posted by Trump's campaign, which used Grande's 2024 single "We Can't Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)" to promote messages against trans people. Grande's label is working to have the song removed from the video, according to Deadline.
"Never use my music again", Grande wrote in the comments. "Also, your truth is false". The video showed Trump walking on to the stage at a rally, with subtitles that began by quoting the song's lyrics: "Me and my truth we sit in silence…". It then continued: "Men cannot have babies and should never compete in sports".
Grande's comment comes after she criticised the White House in June for using her song "Bye" in a video in support of ICE. The artist is the latest to criticise the Trump administration and take action over unauthorised use of her music on social media, following opposition from Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, Olivia Rodrigo, SZA, The Rolling Stones, Neil Young, Katy Perry, Kesha, Radiohead, Noah Kahan, Jess Glynne, Kenny Loggins and other artists.
