Guillermo Herrera, president of the Colombian Chamber of Construction (Camacol), said that reconstruction in the areas affected by the earthquake will require a minimum of four years. The statement reflects the magnitude of the damage caused by the quake in the country.
The Colombian construction sector was already facing previous difficulties, with 12 consecutive quarters of accumulated contraction in the sector's gross domestic product figures. Homes destroyed in municipalities such as Versalles, in the north of Valle, and in cities such as Cali and Pereira, added new challenges to the industry.
Among the prioritised points for reconstruction is the Vanessa building, located in the south of Cali, which suffered significant damage in the seismic event.
