Juan Alberto Cardona Henao, treasurer of the Itagüí Fire Department, was sentenced to just over one year in prison for participating in a corruption scheme. Cardona apologised for his role in the diversion of public resources.
The case is part of an investigation into irregularities in agreements signed between the Itagüí Fire Department and the Metropolitan Area of the Aburrá Valley. Cardona is the first person convicted in relation to corruption investigations during the administration of Medellín mayor Daniel Quintero.
