Brooklyn rapper Fivio Foreign appears to be pivoting towards Christian rap following a video of his new music that went viral this week. In an interview with The Shade Room, he explained that he is changing the content of his rap music because he feels he must listen to "that voice that speaks to you". "I think we're all spiritual, we all know who God is, right? And you pray a couple of times, but you have to do something for God. You have to put in some effort for God," he stated.
However, Fivio Foreign clarified that he does not consider himself to be making gospel music exactly. "When people used to ask me if I was a drill artist, it was hard to answer," he said when asked if he sees himself as a gospel artist now. "I don't feel like a gospel artist and I really don't feel like I'm making gospel music. I just call it gospel music because I know what that means. But I feel like it's just music that comes from my heart. I have all types of beats. So I don't know what a real gospel beat is, but the album has different styles of music where I'm praising God".
He added that he does not want to categorise his work: "I don't want to put it in a category. I'm just Fivi and I'm trying to praise God through my music and not worship the devil through my music, push a positive image and change, I hope to receive a blessing from God".
Fivio Foreign also expressed his desire to collaborate in the future with gospel music artists such as Mary Mary and Kirk Franklin. The artist had already ventured into Christian rap on Ye's 2021 album Donda (formerly known as Kanye West), where he delivered one of the project's standout verses on the song "Off the Grid".
