Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos, the tournament's second seeds, were eliminated on Saturday in the Cincinnati Masters 1000 semifinals by German Constantin Frantzen and Dutch player Robin Haase. The Spanish-Argentine pair lost 6-3, 3-6 and 10-5 in 1 hour and 17 minutes of play.
With the defeat, Granollers and Zeballos were unable to defend the title they won in the 2021 edition of the Ohio tournament. The duo now travel to New York to attempt to retain their title at the US Open, one of the three Grand Slams in their trophy cabinet alongside the last two editions of Roland Garros.
Granollers was the last Spanish representative in the doubles draw of the Cincinnati Masters 1000 after the elimination of Rafa Jódar in the singles round of 16 against Flavio Cobolli.
