Self-employed workers affected by the double earthquake in La Guaira are demanding access to Government financial assistance programmes. The sector is protesting against a bias towards formal businesses and is calling for special credit schemes to revive their activities.
Self-employed traders are facing rubble, accumulated debts and closed businesses as a consequence of the earthquakes. According to the sector, the Government has prioritised support for formal enterprises, leaving out independent workers who also suffered significant losses.
Those affected are calling for their inclusion in recovery programmes with accessible financing that would allow them to reactivate their commercial operations in the area.
