Iraqi Kurdistan's counter-terrorism agency announced that two Shahed-110 explosive drones were launched from Iranian territory against the headquarters of the private office of the regional government prime minister and the residence of the director of the protection agency (Parastin) in the Pirmam district of Arbil province, with no casualties reported.
Kurdish Prime Minister Masrur Barzani wrote on the social network X that his personal office and the residence of the Parastin chief were attacked with Iranian drones. Barzani considered these "reckless and unacceptable attacks constitute a dangerous escalation and a direct threat to the security and stability of the region".
Since the war in the Middle East began in late February with a US-Israeli attack against Iran, the region has been bombed more than a thousand times according to local authorities. The attacks have been divided between actions claimed by Iraqi armed factions against US interests and Iranian attacks against positions of the Iranian Kurdish opposition based for years in northern Iraq.
The region, which has enjoyed autonomy since 1991 and maintains proximity with the United States and Western powers, has adopted a delicate approach in managing its relations with neighbouring Iran.
