Jódar racks up 14 deciding-set wins this season

Spanish tennis player Rafa Jódar advanced to the third round of the Cincinnati Masters 1000 after defeating Denis Shapovalov in a deciding set, accumulating 14 wins from 17 matches that went to deciding sets this season.

Rafa Jódar qualified for the third round of the Cincinnati Masters 1000 after defeating Canadian Denis Shapovalov in a deciding-set match. The Spanish tennis player came from behind at 1-5 in the third set to close it out 7-5 after three hours of play.

With the victory, Jódar has 14 wins from 17 matches that went to deciding sets so far this season. The Madrid player has now won seven deciding sets in a row. In Grand Slams he maintains a perfect record of four wins in his four five-set matches played.

The 19-year-old tennis player has accumulated 21 hours and 13 minutes on court over the last three weeks after competing continuously in the tournaments in Washington, Montreal and Cincinnati. He is the youngest player in the top 100.

Jódar will face Chilean Alejandro Tabilo, the tournament's second seed, in the round of 16. The two have faced each other twice this season: Tabilo won at Indian Wells and Jódar won in Washington.
