Less than a month before the start of the 2026-2027 school year, educational authorities announced the relaunch of school maintenance brigades. Minister Héctor Rodríguez promised the delivery of 1,500 recovered schools for the next cycle, without specifying the location of the schools.

Teacher unions have questioned the announcement and reported that seven out of ten schools have serious deficiencies due to a lack of maintenance professionals. Teachers' organisations have also criticised the lack of transparency in the programme's management and have pointed out previous administration errors.
