Roland González, detained at El Rodeo 1 prison in the Pdvsa-Crypto case, was found yesterday at the Integral Medical Care Centre of the Ministry of Interior, Justice and Peace, where he was taken after suffering a heart attack. González had been missing since 12 August, when prison officials informed his family of the cardiac event without providing details of his location.
González's lawyer, Carlos Sotillo Santaniello, indicated that his client requires surgery to undergo a catheterisation procedure, but the current medical centre lacks the necessary conditions for the procedure. According to Sotillo, the authorities intend to transfer González back to El Rodeo 1, which would put his life at risk.
Sotillo made a call to the Public Defender's Office to stop the return to prison and allow González to be operated on with the required medical care. "González's life is in the hands of the custodians of the Sesmas of El Rodeo 1, the director of El Rodeo 1, the Third Terrorism Court and all relevant authorities," the lawyer stated.
González's family members are demanding immediate and guaranteed medical care, access to doctors of their choosing and an end to the inhumane conditions that put his life at risk under State custody. González was detained on 19 April 2024 when he was visiting the residence of Daniel De Grazia, owner of Compass Bank, by officers of the Directorate General of Military Counter-Intelligence without an arrest warrant.
