A Tennessee resident captured video during a recent car trip when a snake slid out from under the vehicle's bonnet. Analissa Hensley said she and her family were in the car when the snake made its surprising appearance on Callis Road in Lebanon.
"I was sitting there thinking: 'We have a huge snake on the bonnet of our car'", Hensley told WKRN-TV station. "We were heading to Mount Juliet to pick up some soccer items for my youngest daughter, and we were chatting when my husband says: 'There's a snake'".
Hensley recorded video of the snake, which she estimated was approximately 5 feet long. The family tried to pull over to get the snake off the car, but it jumped before the vehicle came to a complete stop.
Mallory Tate, biodiversity biologist at the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, said the snake in the video appears to be a grey rat snake. According to Tate, the species is not venomous and is very common in the state.
Snakes have made appearances on bonnets and windscreens of moving cars several times in the past. An incident in 2023 in The Village, Oklahoma, ended up involving local police who captured and relocated the snake.
