Stray Kids' EP "This & That" placed K-pop in its customary position — number one on the Billboard 200 chart across all genres. The EP is the 25th album or EP by a K-pop act to reach number one on Billboard's main albums chart in just over eight years. The first was BTS's "Love Yourself: Tear" in June 2018.
Stray Kids has accumulated nine number-one titles on the Billboard 200, positioning them ahead among K-pop acts. BTS is in second place with seven number-one titles. ATEEZ follows with three number ones. SuperM, BLACKPINK, TOMORROW X TOGETHER, NewJeans and TWICE have each achieved one number one to date. Additionally, a multi-artist K-pop soundtrack, "KPop Demon Hunters", has reached number one.
Despite their success on the Billboard 200, Stray Kids has yet to enter the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100. Their highest-charting single on that list, "Chk Chk Boom", debuted and reached No. 49 in August 2024.
"This & That" is the second K-pop project to reach number one since the Recording Academy announced on 16 June that it is adding a new category, best Asian pop music performance, for the 69th Grammy Awards, scheduled for 7 February. Eligible recordings include contemporary pop music originated in or widely recognised within Asian markets, including K-pop, J-pop and C-pop. The Academy announced on 14 August that it was holding discussions about the future of the category, which was met with unexpected criticism from some in the K-pop community.
K-pop groups tend to be large ensembles. TWICE has nine members, one more than Stray Kids and ATEEZ. BTS and SuperM each have seven members. TOMORROW X TOGETHER and NewJeans each have five members. BLACKPINK has four members. To date, no solo K-pop artist, duo or trio has reached number one on the Billboard 200.
