An earthquake shook Colombia on 10 August, catching citizens by surprise who initially believed it was a minor tremor. The seismic movement mainly affected cities such as Pereira and Cali, causing building collapses and damage to infrastructure.

Rescue teams mobilised to the affected areas for search and rescue operations. Among the rescue reports, Diana Lucía was found alive after spending more than 24 hours under the rubble in Cali. Daniela Largo was rescued from the rubble of the Vanessa building in the same city.

Ana María Saavedra was identified as the sole survivor of a family in Cali. According to reports on social media, Carlos Arturo Aponte protected his granddaughter Iliana during the collapse of a building. Deaths were also reported, including that of Lenny Fernández, who lost his life while attempting to rescue his pet.

Authorities confirmed that no tsunami alert was issued. Manizales cathedral was affected, as well as areas in Chocó and other regions of the country. Rescue operations continued as the total damage caused by the earthquake was being assessed.
