Hirokazu Kore-eda, Carol Morley and Lili Horvát are among the directors in the official competition of the London Film Festival (LFF). Ten titles will compete, with the winner announced at the LFF Awards on Sunday 18 October.
The countries represented include the United Kingdom, Ireland, Brazil, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Japan and Poland. Among the films are Kore-eda's Look Back, Morley's 7 Miles Out and Horvát's My Notes on Mars. The others are Act 3 by Christine Molloy and Joe Lawlor, Glaxo by Benjamín Naishtat, Imperium by Sergei Loznitsa, Ketticé by Giovanni Tortorici, The Difficult Bride by Rubaiyat Hossain, The Idiot(s) by Malgorzata Szumowska and Michal Englert, and Woman Unknown by May el-Toukhy.
The films span genres ranging from fiction to documentary. The short films selected for other competitive categories of the festival, including the Grierson Prize for Best Documentary, the Sutherland Prize for Best Debut Feature and the Short Film Award, will be revealed in September.
Kristy Matheson, director of the LFF, stated that "it is an honour to have several filmmakers who have previously participated in the festival represented in the Official Competition alongside those making their first appearance. Our 2026 competition selection presents an astonishing array of cinematic styles". The festival will run from 7 to 18 October, with the full announcement on 2 September.
