The Denver Nuggets announced the signing of DeMar DeRozan for the upcoming season. The shooting guard signed a one-year contract worth 3.9 million dollars.
Denver sought to strengthen its team following the trade of Peyton Watson to Cleveland. The Nuggets prioritize competing for the championship this year and surrounding their star, Nikola Jokic, with talent and experience.
DeRozan, 37, will complete his seventeenth NBA season. Last season he averaged 18.4 points per night with around 50 per cent shooting accuracy, and played 77 of his team's 82 games. He has played at least 70 games in each of the last five seasons.
Sacramento released DeRozan early in the preseason due to salary cap limitations, making him a free agent. The shooting guard also held talks with the Miami Heat, Washington Wizards and New Orleans Pelicans before reaching an agreement with Denver.
With DeRozan's arrival, the Nuggets form their Big Three alongside Jokic and Jamal Murray. The franchise seeks to address rumours about a possible trade of its biggest star if the team does not compete for the title.
