Greens leader Larissa Waters said the Australian government should sanction Israel after its defence force decided not to pursue a criminal investigation into the killing of World Central Kitchen aid workers, including Australian Zomi Frankom. Waters said strongly worded statements from the government were not enough.
"The Australian government needs to do more than just issue some strongly worded statements," Waters said. "They need to sanction the state of Israel and they need to make sure that we are not involved in a two-way arms trade, which we are at the moment."
Waters described the Israeli authorities' decision to clear themselves of wrongdoing after two years of investigating as "absolutely outrageous." She said Frankom was "the best of us" and that the news of the investigation's conclusion, released on world humanitarian day, was deeply disappointing.
