Iran's news agency IRNA reported that Iran granted permission to a number of Iraqi oil tankers to cross the Strait of Hormuz, following repeated requests from Baghdad through various channels.
The Iraqi president stated during the eighth Baghdad Forum that Iraq would be one of the countries most affected by the regional escalation, after Iran, due to its total dependence on oil and economic interconnection with other countries. He noted that Iraq faces problems transporting its oil as it does not have a national shipping company.
The Iraqi president reported that he communicated to the head of the Iranian parliament, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, during his recent visit to Baghdad about the damage that tensions in the Strait of Hormuz cause to Iraq. The IRNA agency indicated that the special permit for Iraqi oil tankers was one of Baghdad's main demands during that parliamentary visit.
The Iraqi president emphasised that although the Strait of Hormuz affects the world as a whole, Iraq faces threats to its security due to regional conflict and attacks on Iraqi territory from multiple actors.
