Alex Albon will remain at Williams for the 2027 season after signing a one-year contract extension. The British-born driver with Thai nationality has been at Williams since 2022 and is the longest-serving driver in the team's history.
Albon had been considering his future following a difficult period for Williams this season, which came after a surprising fifth place finish in the championship in 2025. "The transformation this team has undergone is hard to put into words," Albon said. "A difficult year doesn't tell the whole story, and it only gives me more motivation to keep building and moving forward together with the factory and our fans to achieve extraordinary things. Our story is not over, so my total focus now is doing whatever it takes to get us back to the front of the grid."
Albon's decision reflects in part the lack of compelling options available elsewhere on the grid. The four top teams had no available seats for him, leaving him with limited options at other teams in the mid-field. In this context, he decided to commit to Williams and trust that the changes made by team principal James Vowles following this year's difficulties will work.
A one-year contract gives him flexibility should 2027 not represent the progress the team expects. "Alex has been a leader of the transformation project from day one and we have significant unfinished business that we are determined to achieve," Vowles said. "Alex is one of the best drivers on the grid and knows better than anyone the enormous improvements we have made over recent years. His contract renewal demonstrates the confidence we both have in the direction we are heading."
