Véron Mosengo-Omba, who served as Fifa's chief member associations officer until 2021, said he would "take a bullet" for Infantino and was confident the president still commands the backing of Fifa's congress despite mounting pressure. Mosengo-Omba is now president of the Congolese Football Federation (Fecofa).

Mosengo-Omba criticised Infantino's Fifa Forward Enterprise (FFE) scheme, which had sought to sell more than 20% of the World Cup to private investors.
