Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella has faced significant challenges during his first days in office after assuming the presidency at Casa de Nariño. The administration has had to manage simultaneously a seismic crisis and regional diplomatic tensions.

A 7.4-magnitude earthquake affected Colombia three days after De la Espriella took power, particularly impacting the country's western, south-western and coffee belt regions. The quake represented one of the most immediate tests for the new administration.

Parallel to the natural crisis, bilateral relations with Venezuela have taken on new characteristics that require oversight and mutual control mechanisms. The specific details of this regulated framework between both nations are still being developed.
