Barcelona and Manchester City have reached a verbal agreement for the transfer of 30-year-old midfielder Rodri Hernández. According to reports, the transfer fee still needs to be formalised, although both clubs are working on the contractual documentation to complete the operation in the coming days.
Negotiations between the two clubs accelerated this week after Rodri communicated to City his intention to move to Barcelona. With the player's approval confirmed two weeks ago, the Catalan club closed the gap with the English side's demands until reaching an agreement that will bring Rodri back to the Spanish league seven years after leaving Atlético Madrid to join Manchester City under Pep Guardiola's management.
Barcelona was hoping to present Rodri on Wednesday at the Spotify Camp Nou during the Trofeu Joan Gamper against Egyptian Al Ahly, just four days before the league debut on Sunday against Elche. Rodri, winner of the World Cup Ballon d'Or, will join Barcelona as the fourth signing of this season and will strengthen the midfield alongside Pedri, Gavi, Olmo, Fermín and Bernal.
