Roberto Fernández was the standout performer in Espanyol's win against Levante with a brace at the RCDE Stadium (3-0), which allowed the blue-and-white side to occupy top place provisionally on the opening matchday. However, the striker sought to dampen expectations after the match.

"I don't even want to hear that. Look what happened last year. It's only the first matchday," Fernández declared in his post-match interview. The attacker highlighted the team's collective performance: "The team was spectacular in attack and defence, it was a great match".

Fernández emphasised the importance of making the most of his chances in the top flight. "This is the First Division and I know I might not have many opportunities, but the first one went in and I'm working on it," he said. He noted that he had enjoyed a good pre-season and intended to maintain his performance level.

"Before my goals comes the team, and today the team was excellent," the goalscorer said. Fernández acknowledged the physical difficulties during the match: "The humidity is very strong in Barcelona and by the end your legs felt heavy, but we finished very well".
