The British government has withdrawn plans to relax affordable housing rules for developers in England after a public consultation generated overwhelmingly negative responses. The government said on Monday it would not proceed with proposals to end affordable housing quotas for private builders on sites containing between 10 and 49 houses.
Housing experts had warned that the changes could significantly reduce the number of cheaper homes available in rural areas. The government acknowledged that the "significant opposition" it received required a different approach to the policy issue.
