Netflix will launch on October 2 a documentary about Michael Schumacher focused on the 1994 season, when the German driver won the first of his seven Formula 1 World Championships. The project was produced with the participation of Corinna Schumacher, the champion's wife.
The 1994 season was marked by sporting success, accusations of manipulation against Schumacher's Benetton team and tragic events. The fatal accidents of Austrian driver Roland Ratzenberger and three-time world champion Ayrton Senna occurred during that campaign.
The documentary includes testimonies from people close to Schumacher. Among them are former Benetton director Flavio Briatore; former Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone; former drivers David Coulthard and Damon Hill; and Schumacher's former manager Willi Weber. Corinna Schumacher shares her memories in the film.
Schumacher secured his first World Championship in the final race of the season in Adelaide, Australia, winning by one point over Hill. The race was highly controversial at the time. The documentary also examines the beginnings of "Schumimania" in Germany during that era.
