Images from four cameras dedicated to monitoring meteors at an astronomical observatory in Czechia were aligned and combined to create an all-sky view during the entire night of 12-13 August. That night, the total count reached 1,706 meteors, coinciding with peak activity of the 2026 Perseid meteor shower.
The large number of meteors makes them easy to observe. The Perseid trails trace back to a single radiant point in the sky, located in the upper right region of the constellation Perseus, which gives its name to the annual shower.
Meteors from other, far less active showers are also visible if their radiants are identified. These include meteors from a shower whose radiant is located in Cygnus, known as the Kappa Cygnids. The antheliac complex, a general region near Aquarius and opposite the Sun in the sky, is also identifiable as a weak source of meteors.
