Sevilla FC are among the clubs seeking to sign 21-year-old midfielder Obed Vargas from Atlético Madrid, according to a report by journalist César Luis Merlo. The Mexican player is looking for playing time at a European club to continue his development in elite football.

Besides Sevilla, other teams interested in Vargas include Alavés, Valencia, Getafe and Feyenoord, according to the reporter. Vargas made a good impression when Atlético Madrid visited the Sánchez Pizjuán at the end of the previous season, when coach Diego Simeone fielded reserve team players due to their Champions League commitments and the Copa del Rey final. Atlético lost that match 2-1.

The Mexican international made his World Cup debut in June in the tournament held in the United States, Mexico and Canada. Born in Alaska but with Mexican and Spanish heritage, he would not take up a non-EU quota spot. Vargas developed in the MLS after making his debut with Seattle Sounders at the age of 16.

Sevilla are in advanced negotiations to complete the signing of Giorgi Kochorashvili as a midfielder, according to the source. The Andalusian club has seen Nemanja Gudelj, Batista Mendy and Djibril Sow depart from midfield this summer, while only Jon Guridi has arrived so far, leaving them open to additional reinforcements in that position.
