Universitario seeks revenge against Cajamarca in fifth round of Clausura

Universitario de Deportes plays FC Cajamarca this Sunday, 16 August, at the Héroes de San Ramón stadium in the fifth round of the 2026 Clausura Tournament. The match will mark the second official meeting between both institutions in Peru's top division.

Héctor Cúper's side arrives after a 1-1 draw against Sporting Cristal at home. Gianluca Lapadula scored for Universitario, while Yoshimar Yotún equalised for the visitors. With seven points accumulated, the cream-coloured team occupies eighth place in the table and will seek to collect three points to climb positions.

FC Cajamarca, under the direction of Celso Ayala, arrives with renewed spirit after defeating Melgar 4-2 in Arequipa in the previous round. Michel Rasmussen, Mauricio Arrasco and Carlos Meza, who scored two goals, were the goalscorers for the Cajamarca side. With four points, Cajamarca occupies fourteenth place.

The first meeting between both institutions took place during the 2026 Apertura Tournament at the Monumental stadium, where Universitario won 1-0 with a goal from Lisandro Alzugaray from a free kick. On that occasion, Javier Rabanal was managing Universitario while Carlos Silvestri was in charge of Cajamarca.

The match will be broadcast by L1 MAX on television. Furthermore, the streaming platform L1 Play will offer digital coverage by subscription. In Peru, Colombia and Ecuador the match will start at 15:30; in Chile, Venezuela and Bolivia at 16:30; and in Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay at 17:30.
