Four-time Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen extended his contract with Red Bull until the end of 2030, the team announced on Thursday after months of speculation about his future in the category. The 28-year-old Dutch driver had an agreement that was set to run until the end of the 2028 season.
Red Bull announced the agreement through a statement on social media in which it said that the commitment represents "a powerful statement of mutual trust and ambition". The news was announced while preparations were underway for the Grand Prix at Zandvoort, where Verstappen will race at home.
Verstappen responded to the agreement by saying that the team is "like a second family" to him. "We have the best people, and I am excited to continue working with everyone to return to the top", the driver said according to the statement.
The Dutchman has raced for Red Bull for a decade after making his debut with the team with a victory in his first race. In ten seasons he has won four consecutive world titles since 2021 and 71 victories in Formula 1, in addition to helping the team win two constructors' championships.
However, the current season has been more difficult for Verstappen. He did not win any Grand Prix in the first half of the year and currently sits sixth in the drivers' championship, after Briton Lando Norris of McLaren took the 2025 title. Speculation about a possible change of team has ended with this renewal.
