Alex Albon has renewed his contract with Williams F1 Team for several years, becoming the first driver to commit to staying with the British team. Director James Vowles has been negotiating with both his drivers to maintain the same line-up in 2027, and it is not unlikely that confirmation of Carlos Sainz's arrival could come imminently.
Williams confirmed that Albon will continue competing with the team in 2027, "reaffirming its commitment to returning Williams to the path of success", according to an official statement. The team highlighted that since Albon's arrival in 2022, he has been "a key leader in the team's transformation, both on and off the track", although it did not specify the length of the new agreement.
Albon stated in his comments that the team's transformation since 2022 is "difficult to describe in words" and that a difficult year does not reflect the full reality of progress. The Thai driver said he was "totally focused on doing everything necessary to get back to the top of the grid".
Vowles expressed his satisfaction with the renewal, indicating that Albon "has been a leader in this transformation project from day one". The director added that "we both have many unfinished business that we are determined to complete" and highlighted that Albon is "one of the best drivers on the grid".
