The exhibition "Turn the Volume Up!" at Duke University's Nasher Museum of Art highlights the activism of ordinary people who have faced injustice. The exhibition's title was inspired by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who cited the song "Turn the Volume Up" by Bronx rapper KRS-One during his victory speech on election day.
The exhibition features works by artists such as Kara Walker, Carrie Mae Weems and the Guerrilla Girls. The exhibition examines how protests and collective action can create and inspire social change.
"Turn the Volume Up!" opens on 27 August and runs until 11 July 2027.
