Disney's former chief executive Bob Iger became a Disney Legend following a career that included the acquisition of one of the most coveted sports franchises in the United States. The honour, which recognises those who have "left a significant impact on Disney's legacy", is equivalent to an induction into the hall of fame.
Robert Downey Jr. was among those who paid tribute to the historic Disney leader. "The main quality of Mr Iger is courage," the actor said from the stage, citing his "bold decisions" and noting that he succeeded in "empowering people".
Harrison Ford also attended the ceremony and said: "I saw you make impossible decisions. I saw you protect creative people. I saw you carry an enormous responsibility with remarkable grace. But what I will remember most is the way you made people believe. That is leadership".
Ellen Pompeo added: "It is your integrity and your kindness that will be your legacy forever. And thank you, Bob, for reminding us that leadership is not only about making decisions, it is about making people matter".
Iger took the stage to a standing ovation and then praised Disney's new chief executive Josh D'Amaro, saying: "I believe you carry that office very well and I am very proud to call you my successor".
