Brides are increasingly seeking to ensure that their flower bouquets represent the scent notes of their favourite perfumes, and vice versa. Some florists and fragrance experts now offer services to create custom bouquets or perfumes that combine both elements.
Daniel Figuero, a fragrance expert and author of "Contraperfume", noted that creating a bouquet inspired by a fragrance is straightforward. "Flowers have been one of the most widely used raw materials in fragrance compositions, so making a bouquet inspired by a fragrance is easy," he said. Figuero suggested the use of lavender, tuberose or roses as viable options, although he cautioned that flowers such as jasmine or orange blossom might not withstand certain temperatures over long periods.
Miguel Bartolomé, a perfume expert and brand manager at the Isolée shop, indicated that it is possible to find a fragrance that uses the notes of a bridal bouquet as reference. "The key is to find a perfume with the notes that make up your bridal bouquet but that at the same time makes you feel like yourself," Bartolomé said.
Raquel Navarro, a perfume expert and partner at catadeperfumes, explained that there are three main options: choosing an existing perfume that matches the bouquet, asking the florist to use the perfume as inspiration, or commissioning a personalised fragrance. "It is crucial that there is harmony and attunement between the five senses," Navarro emphasised, adding that many flowers may not give off an aroma but the brain predisposes itself to smell them when it sees them.
Navarro suggested different approaches depending on the type of bouquet: classic flowers such as roses or peonies can be reproduced with varied floral notes, wildflower bouquets can be combined with green notes and honeysuckle flowers, and bouquets of wheat ears and dried flowers can evoke accords of sunny countryside.
