An exhibition at the Charles Dickens Museum in London analyses the writer's holiday habits, which included destinations such as Kent and the Isle of Wight. During the summer in the city, the pubs are packed and the coast attracts many, a reality that was also lived 186 years ago when Dickens wrote in anticipation of escaping London for the sea breeze of Broadstairs, in Kent.
The hot, dry summers of the past, though less frequent than those of today, led Londoners to seek refuge on the coast. Dickens was one of them, and the exhibition documents his holiday trips across various periods of his life.
