Fontaines D.C. revealed their next era with the confirmation of their new album, "Dopamine Chamber", arriving on 16 October through XL Recordings. The Dublin-based band unveiled the lead single "Marianne" during a performance at the Baluarte de la Candelaria venue in Cádiz, Spain, on 8 August.

According to the press release, "Dopamine Chamber" was produced by James Ford, who worked with the band on their two previous albums, "Skinty Fia" and "Romance". The album was recorded in London, the English countryside and Palermo, and features a darker sound influenced by electronic elements. Conor Curley, the band's guitarist, said that the sonic shift and new influences represent the group "trying to find things that pointed towards the future".

According to the band, the single "Marianne" was inspired in part by Netflix's thriller series "Ripley" (2024), starring Adam Scott and based on Patricia Highsmith's novel "The Talented Mr. Ripley".

"Dopamine Chamber" is Fontaines D.C.'s fifth studio album to date, following "Dogrel" (2019), "A Hero's Death" (2020), "Skinty Fia" (2022) and "Romance" (2024). The latter was nominated for the Mercury Prize and earned the band the BRIT 2025 award for best international group; it also reached number 2 on the UK Official Albums Chart and became their first entry on the Billboard 200, where it peaked at number 97.

Having met at a music school in the Irish capital in 2014, the five-piece has become one of the most acclaimed rock bands of the past decade. The band has received multiple Grammy Award nominations throughout their career, beginning with a nomination for best rock album for "A Hero's Death" at the 2021 ceremony, followed by two nominations in 2025 for "Romance" (best rock album) and the single "Starburster" (best alternative music performance). Fontaines D.C. will headline Reading & Leeds Festival on 30 August, alongside other major acts including Charli xcx, RAYE, Dave, Florence + The Machine and Chase & Status.
