The Irish National Police (Gardaí) announced the deaths of several people and reported that others suffered serious injuries following a direct collision between two vehicles on a motorway in the country, according to British news agency PA Media.

A Gardaí spokesperson said one of the vehicles was travelling in the opposite direction on the lane designated for northbound traffic on the M9 motorway.

Emergency teams received reports of a vehicle travelling southbound in the northbound lane of the M9, resulting in a head-on collision with another vehicle.
