The defence ministers of Oman and Iran, Badr al-Busaidi and Abbas Araghchi, discussed "ways of creating appropriate conditions for resuming dialogue and negotiations and developments in navigation in the Strait of Hormuz", according to the Omani news agency.
Both ministers emphasised "the importance of continuing conversations to achieve practical agreements that support the resumption of freedom of navigation and its fluidity, as well as the security and stability of the region", according to the statement.
The conversations take place as part of active Omani mediation between Tehran and Washington to find a formula for understanding that would allow the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, which has been closed since the war that has been ongoing since last February.
The ministers have held similar conversations on several occasions in recent months, in which they have addressed maritime navigation security and provisional arrangements for managing the strait. Iran has recently expressed optimism regarding an upcoming agreement with Oman on a "maritime navigation movement charter" in the strait, while Oman's foreign minister noted that a sustainable arrangement of the strait crisis "is unlikely to take shape" without addressing the roots of the disagreement.
