A private helicopter crashed on the island of Sifnos, in the Greek Cyclades, on Monday, killing three people with no survivors. The victims included the pilot, a Greek national, and a foreign couple who had chartered the private flight.
The aircraft took off from Markopoulo, in Attica, and crashed in the Tholos area shortly after departing from the local heliport. The helicopter caught fire near the Panagia Brysi monastery, the Fire Department confirmed on social media.
Firefighters were alerted shortly after 6:15 p.m. on Monday and emergency teams were immediately mobilised with ground crews. A rescue team from Syros travelled by a RAFNAR fast boat of the Fire Department. Authorities are investigating the causes of the accident, which according to initial reports occurred during landing.
