Carlos Sainz signed a contract extension with Williams shortly before Formula 1's return with the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort. The contract places the Madrid-born driver among the five highest-paid drivers on the grid, with a salary close to 30 million per season.
Sainz told the team's official media that the renewal reflects his conviction in the British team's project. "The goal is the same: to return the team to where it belongs. It will be a hard road, but we have the right ingredients to achieve it," he said. The driver emphasised the importance of the team's internal structure and mentioned changes and investments he considers promising.
Williams climbed during 2025 from the back of the grid to fifth place in the championship. Sainz recalled the podiums the team achieved during the season, including Baku, his first points finish with the team. "The feeling I had when I crossed the line in Baku I cannot put into words," he said.
The driver valued the direct relationship he maintains with the team led by James Vowles. "It is important to be honest and transparent, with an environment where we take responsibility for the decisions we make," he explained. Sainz concluded by highlighting the support of fans: "When they wear the blue, they lift us up after difficult days".
