Nearly six months after the collapse of the eastern water system, communities in eastern Venezuela continue to receive no official information about progress on repairs to the Turimiquire tunnel, whose paralisation is prolonging the drinking water shortage.

Sectors of Cumaná are receiving only 50 per cent of their usual water allocation, while drought threatens to worsen the situation in the region. The system collapsed following a underground cave-in recorded in February, followed by seismic activity.
