A 4.0 magnitude earthquake was recorded in the early morning hours of Tuesday in Vargas State and was felt in sectors of Caracas and other areas of the country. The epicentre was located northwest of La Guaira at a depth of 10 kilometres, according to a statement from Funvisis published on the social network X.
The earthquake occurred at 3:07 a.m. on 18 August. Users on X began reporting the tremor minutes after it was recorded.
Delcy Rodríguez, head of the interim government, reported via Telegram that the Protection System was activated to conduct the corresponding monitoring. "At this time, we have no reports of any kind of damage," she said, according to reporting by the EFE news agency.
The Municipality of Chacao reported through its WhatsApp channels that as of 3:30 a.m. there was nothing to report and that it was continuing to monitor. The tremor occurred 55 days after two earthquakes of 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude recorded on 24 June, which caused 6,438 deaths according to official figures from the interim government.
