Negotiations for the transfer of Uruguayan forward Darwin Nuñez from Al-Hilal to Trabzonspor have entered a decisive phase, although a financial dispute between the player and his Saudi club continues to delay the official announcement. Turkish website 61 Sat reported on Sunday that Trabzonspor reached an agreement with Nuñez regarding the terms of his transfer, but the settlement of outstanding payments owed to the player by Al-Hilal, estimated at around 12 million euros, remains the main obstacle.
According to the report, Nuñez earns an annual salary of approximately 20 million euros, and taxes associated with his income have contributed to complicating the negotiations. However, the website expressed optimism about the possibility of resolving the matter at any time. Turkish journalist Yagiz Sabunoglu revealed on Friday that Trabzonspor had reached an agreement with Nuñez, while conversations with Al-Hilal continued.
Al-Hilal signed Nuñez from Liverpool for around 53 million euros in 2025 and he is bound by a contract until 2028. Reports from Saturday suggested that the operation could be carried out as a loan, although the latest developments indicated that financial matters have become the centre of the delay.
Nuñez, 27, has played 306 matches and scored 117 goals throughout his career. At Liverpool he played 143 games with 40 goals, while in his 24 matches with Al-Hilal he scored 9 goals. He has won titles with Liverpool, including the English Premier League, the League Cup and the Community Shield, and participated in the World Cups of 2022 and 2026, as well as the Copa América 2024 with Uruguay.
