Venezuela's National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (Inameh) forecasted heavy rainfall from the confluence of tropical waves 38 and 39. The institute indicated that precipitation would be most intense on 17, 18 and 23 August.

According to Inameh, rainfall could reach an intensity of up to 60 litres per square metre and would be accompanied by electrical discharges. Precipitation would affect much of the national territory, particularly the Eastern, Central, Western Llanos, Southern, Andes, Zulia, Amazonas regions, western Bolívar and the northeast of Guyana Esequiba.

The institute noted that precipitation would be most intense in the afternoons and evenings due to daytime heating over the tropical waves and their interaction with the Intertropical Convergence Zone. Meteorologist Luis Vargas reported on Tuesday the tropical wave in the eastern Caribbean, northeast of Venezuela, along with cloud cover producing rainfall and electrical discharges in various regions.

Vargas noted scattered precipitation in areas of eastern Sucre, sectors of Guárico and Cojedes, eastern Barinas and Apure, western Bolívar, southern and eastern Portuguesa, isolated points of Lake Maracaibo, Anzoátegui, Amazonas, the Western Llanos, Carabobo, Yaracuy, Lara, Falcón, Zulia, Mérida and Táchira. He clarified that this was a point report that would change progressively and did not constitute a forecast.

Inameh also forecasts that tropical wave 40 will reach Guyana Esequiba between Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.
