Two teenage girls swept away by flood in Caracas

Two teenage girls who had been friends since childhood died on Saturday in Caracas after being swept away by floodwaters from a torrential downpour.

Dougleinys Gil, 15, and Jonairys Maza, 17, died on Saturday in La Vega, Caracas, after being swept away by the current generated by torrential rain. Both had been friends since childhood.

According to reports, the teenage girls were enjoying the rain when they were swept away by the surge of water. The incident occurred during the downpour that hit the area over the weekend.

On Monday 17 August, family, neighbours and friends gathered in tribute to the victims.
