English striker Harry Kane received the European Golden Boot on Wednesday at Bayern Munich's museum, the German champions. Kane expressed his belief that "winning this Golden Boot tastes even better than the first one".
Kane added that "winning this Golden Boot tastes even better than the first one, considering what we've achieved as a team. Winning three titles — the Bundesliga, the German Cup and the German Super Cup — gives the matter a special character for the team".
With 36 goals in the Bundesliga last season, Kane surpassed Norwegian striker Erling Haaland of English Manchester City, who scored 27 goals, and French striker Kylian Mbappé of Spanish Real Madrid, who scored 25 goals and won the distinction last season.
Kane had already won the Golden Boot in his first season with Bayern (2023-2024) after scoring 36 goals, but the Bavarian club failed to win any titles that year.
In Bundesliga history, only Polish striker Robert Lewandowski with 41 goals in 2020-2021 and Gerd Müller with 40 goals in 1971-1972 surpass Kane's scoring numbers in a single season.
Kane enjoyed his best season in his career, scoring 36 goals in the Bundesliga, 14 in the Champions League, 10 in the German Cup — including a hat-trick in the final against Stuttgart — and one in the German Super Cup.
The captain of the English national team and his country's all-time leading goalscorer with 85 goals also scored 12 more goals with his national team during the 2025-2026 season, including 6 in the World Cup in North America, becoming England's all-time leading goalscorer in world finals with 14 goals.
He reached a total of 73 goals across all competitions with his club and country in the 2025-2026 season, nine fewer than the 82 that Lionel Messi scored with Barcelona and Argentina in the 2011-2012 season, a figure that remains the benchmark.
Kane is expected to face fierce competition for the Ballon d'Or against Frenchman Kylian Mbappé, forward of Real Madrid; Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, winger of Paris Saint-Germain; and the Spanish World Cup-winning duo Rodri or Lamine Yamal.
Kane hinted at his desire to remain with Bayern Munich after this season, at the awards ceremony held at Bayern Munich's museum at the Allianz Arena. He said he was grateful "to Bayern Munich's management, to the players and to the technical and administrative staff, because without them I wouldn't be here".
He added: "Winning this Golden Boot requires great effort. I always try to help my team. I'm proud of what I did last season, which was exceptional. I consider it my best season in my career. I feel at home in Bayern Munich's ranks and we all hope to repeat the successes in the new season".
Kane's contract with Bayern runs until 2027 and he is preparing to negotiate an extension with the Bavarian club.
