A New Jersey woman who accidentally dropped her wedding ring into a train toilet was reunited with the jewel thanks to NJ Transit employees. Julie Angelicola said she realised her ring was missing shortly after leaving the bathroom on an NJ Transit train.
"I was meticulously wiping all the soap off my hands with toilet paper, literally finger by finger, and crumpling it all up, trying to do it quickly - I threw it in the toilet, pulled the handle, and went back to my seat," Angelicola told WPVI-TV.
Angelicola reported the loss of the ring to NJ Transit, which took the train out of service. Employees jacked up the train, removed the toilet tank and opened it to discover Angelicola's ring on top.
The ring was returned to Angelicola on Monday at an NJ Transit Customer Service Centre. Angelicola said the ring has immense sentimental value. The jewel, believed to date from 1905, was purchased at an antique shop, and Angelicola later discovered that the initials engraved inside the ring matched the nicknames she and her husband call each other.
