Unión Deportiva Las Palmas secured victory over Albacete Balompié 2-1 in a first matchday fixture of Liga Hypermotion 2026-2027 played on Sunday at the Gran Canaria stadium. The match was marked by good pace and numerous chances at both ends, characteristics typical of an opening day encounter.

Jesé Rodríguez opened the scoring in the 21st minute following a low combination that finished with his effort into the net. Albacete responded insistently, particularly after Obeng's injury in the second half, levelling in the 85th minute when Víctor San Bartolomé tapped in at the far post from a corner.

In extra time, Sandro Ramírez settled the match with a curled shot that beat the opposing goalkeeper shortly after coming on to the pitch. The goal came when the Castilla-La Mancha side were down to ten players as San Bartolomé received treatment for an injury.

The match was also notable for marking the debut of Olatz Rivera Olmedo as a lead referee in the Spanish second division. The fixture drew 18,087 spectators to the island stadium and was preceded by a minute's silence in honour of victims of a recent earthquake in Colombia and Las Palmas supporters who died during the previous campaign.
