Seasonal hiring in the UK has strengthened this year, with the Recruitment and Employment Confederation recording a significant rise in summer job vacancies in hospitality and tourism compared with the previous year.

The REC, which runs a monthly labour market tracker, attributed the increase to exceptionally warm weather and a busy calendar of major sporting and musical events. The men's football World Cup was among events cited as helping to drive demand for temporary workers.
