Harry Maguire, Manchester United defender, said that his teammate Marcus Rashford strengthens the team's capabilities and represents a genuine threat to rivals. Maguire expressed his hope that the forward will stay at the club during the upcoming Premier League season.

Rashford has not played for Manchester United since losing the confidence of former manager Rúben Amorim in December 2024. The forward has spent the last 18 months on loan at Aston Villa and Barcelona.

The future of the 28-year-old forward at the club where he was developed remains uncertain, although Michael Carrick, Manchester United's new manager, described the English international last week as "our player".

Rashford returned to Manchester United's lineup last week after a long break following the World Cup, coming off the bench in the match the team lost 2-4 against Italian AC Milan on Sunday in a warm-up match for the new season.

Maguire said after the defeat: "Transfers are still open. As players, we hope he stays because if he stays it will be a great reinforcement. He can definitely raise the level of the team. They saw that when he came on the pitch, he represented a great threat to the defence. He could have scored a goal. He is a huge threat. I have played with Marcus for many years and I know that playing against him or with him in training will help us".

Manchester United, who finished third last season, begin their Premier League campaign away at Hull City, recently promoted to the league, next Saturday.
